Sustained Investigation:
Identify the inquiry that guided your sustained
investigation.
What toll do humans have on the environment and how has the dire state of
nature impacted me? Growing up in California I have witnessed a few
environmental disasters first hand. For years wildfires ravaged the mountains
near my home in the Bay Area. Even more recently an oil spill fowled the
waters in Huntington Beach, CA where my family and I often visit.
Experiences like these have fueled my passion for helping the environment
and to use my art as a vehicle for awareness and change.
Describe ways your sustained investigation
developed through practice, experimentation, and
revision.
I experimented in a variety of mediums. All the works share an environmental
message. In pieces 1-6, I explored how environmental degradation has
affected me. Image 8 was taken in Half Moon Bay and 3 & 6 in Huntington
Beach, CA, places dear to me. In 8, 1 0 & 11 I explored how single photos
and collections can tell stories. 7 , 9 , 12 & 1 3 show the direct negative impact
humans have on various species/ecosystems. 14 & 1 5 depict how capitalism
fuels humans to destroy the environment. 1, 2, 3 & 7 culminate my practice,
merging digital photography with other mediums.
